Ingredients:
Brinjal - 1 large
Tomatoes - 2 nos
Green chilies - 3 nos
Red chilies - 3 nos
Curry leaves - a few leaves
Mustard seeds - 1 tea spoon
Black gram dal - 1 tea spoon
Bengal gram dal - 1 tea spoon
Tamarind - 1 small lemon size
Jaggery (Gur) - 1 tea spoon
Cooking oil - 1 table spoon
Salt to taste
1. Soak tamarind in 1 cup of warm water for 1/2 hr, squeeze juice and keep aside.
2. Cut brinjals into 1 inch big pieces and pressure cook or cook adding little water in microwave.
3. Finely chop tomatoes, green chilies and curry leaves.
4. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds, black gram dal, bengal gram dal and red chilies(broken into small pieces)
5. Add finely chopped curry leaves, green chilies and tomatoes and stir cook in low flame.
6. When the tomatoes are soft and shapeless add the cooked brinjals.
7. Add salt, add tomato masher and mash the bhartha thoroughly till the brinjals are mashed well and mixed with the other ingredients.
8. Now add the tamarind juice and boil for 3 - 4 mins. Remove from stove.
9. Serve hot with rice or paathas.
