Squash kootu

Ingredients:

Squash (சௌ சௌ)  -  2 nos
Moong dal                    -  3 table spoons
Grated coconut             -  2 table spoons
Jeera                            -  1 tea spoon
Green chillies                -  2 nos
Coconut oil                   -  1 table spoon
Mustard seeds               -  1 table spoon
Black gram dal               -  1 table spoon
Curry leaves                   -  a few leaves
Asafoitida                      -  1 pinch
Salt to taste

1.  Cook moong dal till soft.
2.  Peel the squash and chop it into small cubes.
3.  Take 1/2 cup of water in a pan and add the diced squash, add salt and turmeric and cook till done.
4.  Add the cooked moong dal to the squash and add asafoitida.
5.  Now grind the grated coconut, jeera and green chillies.
6.  Add this paste to the dal squash mixture and boil for 1 min. and remove from stove.
7.  Heat coconut oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds and black gram dal.
8.  Once the dal turns light brown and the mustard crackles add the curry leaves and then add the mixture to the kootu.
9.  Squash kootu சௌ சௌ கூட்டு ready.  Its tastes good with rice as well as chapatis.
